Days 3 and 4

Day 3 saw us at our wedding anniversary and we decided to have a low key chill out day at the resort. Late breakfast was the order of the day at Leelavadee Restaurant for a buffet style breakfast. Massages were next with Pete having a Swedish massage whilst I had an Oriental massage. I can honestly say from both of us we came out of those massages so relaxed Im glad we didn't have anything else booked for the day. A swim in the resort pool was a must in the afternoon and some reading was in order. After which we headed back to our room for a shower and dress for dinner.

Dinner was a Thai themed buffet style meal at Chom Dao Restaurant where we sampled some delights of the Thai cuisine with some traditional Thai dancers and performers made for a beautiful and enjoyable night. A nightcap at the pool bar and the night was complete.

Day 4 saw us up and at em early with breakfast over by 8am and our transport to the safari park for our elephant trek was due at 8.25am. We travelled in an open backed covered ute Thai style for the very windy 40min journey to the Safari park. I made sure I didn't look to see where we were headed as the Thai people drive like they are possessed. Weaving in an out of the traffic, overtaking with oncoming traffic etc. We arrived at the Safari park and with no time to spare or take photos we were loaded straight onto the elephant, a 45 yr old female. We were off on our trek around the safari park and I did enjoy it much better than the camel ride I did at the beginning of the year. Our guide took my camera and hopped down off the elephant and took a heap of photos of us which was good. He was a funny little chap and obviously loved the elephants. I was taken aback when he stopped half way and asked us for a tip. I didn't understand what he was asking but Pete cottoned on so gave him a tip before we ventured on. I'm not quite sure if we were taken for a ride but it wasn't much money in the end and I'm not sure what he would've done if we refused. After our ride which was fun we saw that you could get a photo taken with a tiger or leopard. Pete decided to get his photo taken with the tiger for 200B which turned out to be him sitting with a tiger and me taking photos of him with my camera.... Hmmmm. I decided not to get my photo as I didn't like how the tiger was chained to a concrete block and I didn't like how the tiger (a one year old) was treated by the handlers. Left me with mixed feelings. Very much targeted towards the tourist. After this we were taken back to our hotel in the same open windy ute. Was an experience I can tell you.

Got back to the resort by lunchtime and walked down to the local fishermans village where we grabbed some lunch. Me a chicken salad and Pete a pad Thai. Back to the resort in the afternoon for our daily cooling off swim. We ventured out again at night to Lamai beach night market this time by taxi. Was a great market with a great vibe and lots of food stalls and a beautiful beach. There weren't as many clothes stalls as we thought but lots of music. Back to fishermans village for a late night dinner on the beach before heading back to the resort for a night cap and good nights sleep after the long day.

Love to all xxx

  1. Can't wait to see the photos! I agree with your stand on the tiger cub too, Cathie. The more people so "no", the more they might rethink their approach!
    Enjoy!
