Day 5 and it's Monday already. We had a little sleep in after our busy day yesterday. Buffet breakfast followed by a swim and some reading by the pool.
Caught the free shuttle to Chaweng Beach for some shopping and to check the place out. Was disappointed with the lack of access to the beautiful beach unless you were staying at one of the huge resorts there. We ventured onto the shopping strip and did some obligatory bargain shopping. If I hear 'gidday mate' one more time I'm going to flatten the next Indian trying
to sell us a cheap suit hahaha. All in good fun I suppose..... We stopped for some late lunch at an English pub and watched some football (soccer) on the big screen. Found the 'Bondi bar' and had to stop for a drink to the sounds of 'I come from a land down under' blasting from their speakers whilst it rained. Was a little too Aussie mate for me so we ventured out shopping again. Walked and shopped ourselves exhausted but had to wait for the shuttle at 10pm so found the Dukes pub again for some bar snacks for dinner and drinks. Caught the shuttle back and just fell into bed
Today is now Tuesday and we got to the pool early to secure one of the cabanas for our lazy day by the pool. Pete is asleep next to me and I reckon will start snoring soon. It is heating up so I might go for a swim. Tonight is a cocktail party and BBQ on the beach. So catchya later the pool is calling me...

Days 3 and 4
Day 3 saw us at our wedding anniversary and we decided to have a low key chill out day at the resort. Late breakfast was the order of the day at Leelavadee Restaurant for a buffet style breakfast. Massages were next with Pete having a Swedish massage whilst I had an Oriental massage. I can honestly say from both of us we came out of those massages so relaxed Im glad we didn't have anything else booked for the day. A swim in the resort pool was a must in the afternoon and some reading was in order. After which we headed back to our room for a shower and dress for dinner.
Dinner was a Thai themed buffet style meal at Chom Dao Restaurant where we sampled some delights of the Thai cuisine with some traditional Thai dancers and performers made for a beautiful and enjoyable night. A nightcap at the pool bar and the night was complete.
Day 4 saw us up and at em early with breakfast over by 8am and our transport to the safari park for our elephant trek was due at 8.25am. We travelled in an open backed covered ute Thai style for the very windy 40min journey to the Safari park. I made sure I didn't look to see where we were headed as the Thai people drive like they are possessed. Weaving in an out of the traffic, overtaking with oncoming traffic etc. We arrived at the Safari park and with no time to spare or take photos we were loaded straight onto the elephant, a 45 yr old female. We were off on our trek around the safari park and I did enjoy it much better than the camel ride I did at the beginning of the year. Our guide took my camera and hopped down off the elephant and took a heap of photos of us which was good. He was a funny little chap and obviously loved the elephants. I was taken aback when he stopped half way and asked us for a tip. I didn't understand what he was asking but Pete cottoned on so gave him a tip before we ventured on. I'm not quite sure if we were taken for a ride but it wasn't much money in the end and I'm not sure what he would've done if we refused. After our ride which was fun we saw that you could get a photo taken with a tiger or leopard. Pete decided to get his photo taken with the tiger for 200B which turned out to be him sitting with a tiger and me taking photos of him with my camera.... Hmmmm. I decided not to get my photo as I didn't like how the tiger was chained to a concrete block and I didn't like how the tiger (a one year old) was treated by the handlers. Left me with mixed feelings. Very much targeted towards the tourist. After this we were taken back to our hotel in the same open windy ute. Was an experience I can tell you.
Got back to the resort by lunchtime and walked down to the local fishermans village where we grabbed some lunch. Me a chicken salad and Pete a pad Thai. Back to the resort in the afternoon for our daily cooling off swim. We ventured out again at night to Lamai beach night market this time by taxi. Was a great market with a great vibe and lots of food stalls and a beautiful beach. There weren't as many clothes stalls as we thought but lots of music. Back to fishermans village for a late night dinner on the beach before heading back to the resort for a night cap and good nights sleep after the long day.

The Mac's have arrive
After an uneventful but sleepless long 2 flights we landed in the beautiful Koh Samui early morning and already it's very hot. The baggage carousels were in a beautiful thatched hut. Yes, we have arrived in paradise. After the shuttle to our gorgeous hotel and checking in complete with complementary cool wet cloths and unknown juice we crashed in our air conditioned room for a couple of hours before venturing out to check out the resort. We quickly decided a swim in the resort pool was a must to cool down. A gorgeous dinner at the resort restaurant by the beach and a walk along the beach after dinner was stunning then back to the room to crash
Day 2 saw us venture out beyond the walls of the resort to the local fishermans village. Where we took some photos of interesting places as you can see on Pete's fb Should've realized that venturing out in the heat of the day was not wise. Oh well we did it. It certainly was a eye opener for us, only one guy tried to con us but we had his measure. Decided after a few hours of mingling with the locals in the humidity I was in need of cooling off in the pool. We ventured back to the fishermans village for dinner and found the streets full of market stalls people and even some ladyboy performers. Had the best Phad Thai that I can remember and Pete had some very hot duck. Even had the waitress very amused with how hot it was she gave Pete a cool towel and put the fans on us. Back to the bar for a few drinks then back to our room.
Day 3 - today - is our wedding anniversay and will be our chill-out day. Just back from a late breakfast, we have massages booked for midday then off for a swim this afternoon. Tonight is theme night at the restaurant with traditional Thai food and dancing so we are looking forward to that.
Tomorrow is our elephant trek so will check in later to let you all know how that went
So la gon for now

Time for a holiday
Howdy all,
Well its time for the Mac's to put their feet up in beautiful Koh Samui, Thailand. We are heading off on 14th September 2011 for our chill out holiday and will return ten days/nights later. Not sure how much of a chill-out holiday it will be as there are so much that we want to do as well as just laze by the pool. Elephant trekking, scuba lessons, thai cooking classes, visit temples, massages, shopping shopping and some shopping. Oh, so much to do...Will keep you all posted.
